Kara started backtracking down the mountain to Alder's house.

Alder somehow managed to find every Traveler a place to sleep as the sunset gave way to nighttime skies. He made his way to his room to get ready for bed.

A while from the house, Kara tripped and thudded onto the ground. Shaki squeaked as he went flying. He staggered upright and padded back to Kara. She didn't move, blood leaking from a large gash on her head. Shaki looked around, spotting the lights from the house he ran toward them.

He ran up to the door and knocked.

Alder had been about to go to bed when he heard the knock. Who in the world would come to me at this time of night? He went to the door and opened, befuddled to find another klee at his door. "Who in the world are you?"

The other one blinked up at him. "Shaki. I'm Kara's brother. Do you know here? It looked like she was trying to bring me here."

"I'm Alder. I live here." Alder muttered angrily, "I thought Kara knew better than to break the number one rule of Traveling!"

Shaki tilted his head. "Our home vanished. Kara warned me if that happened I was supposed to hide and wait for her. Do you know anything about that?"

"And what if I do?" Alder asked, suddenly suspicious of how much the klee knew and whether or not he was trustworthy. "How am I supposed to know that I can trust you? That's top secret."

Shaki sat down hard on the step. "I don't know. I don't know anything Top-Secret. All I know is that Kara warned me our home might vanish. And it looked like she was trying to bring me here, I don't know why! I don't understand this!" He started to shiver and tears welled in his eyes.

Alder considered the facts carefully. If Shaki was Kara's brother and had not vanished, then that could only mean one thing. "Wait a moment...!" Alder said as he went to his room. Bobby had given him a list of the Travelers that had been put on every territory.

Wait...Kara wouldn't have known about her family and home vanishing unless she had talked to one of the previous Travelers about the fact that she was a Traveler...if I'm not mistaken. (I'm doing that based on the books.)

Shaki waited.
She probably did talk to another Traveler.

Alder read the list and under 'Eelong', sure enough, was Shaki's name...right under Kara's name.

Shaki was shivering with cold, after a few more moments he turned and ran back toward where Kara was.

He ran back to the door. "Hey! Where'd you go?"

Shaki reached the place where Kara was lying and curled up next her. He coughed a few times and spat a few spots of blood from his mouth.

Alder scanned the land in front of his house for signs of the young klee.

Nothing, except for a small trail of pawprints.

Alder quietly locked his door and followed them, careful to hide them with his own to divert the suspicions of his villagers.

Shaki's ears twitched and his head shot up as he heard the footsteps.

"Stand down, Shaki," Alder said. "It's me, Alder."

Shaki coughed again. "I wasn't standing in the first place."

Alder shook his head. "It's an expression...it means something along the lines of 'calm down'. It's used sometimes among my people the Bedouin...Earthling's use it frequently...it's often use among militaruy groups."
